Coping With Fear

There are two kinds of fear... one is the shaking hands and sinking stomach of immediate physical fear, the pumping of adrenline that once got our ancestors 15 feet up the nearest tree at the sound of something that might well eat them... Call that 'body fear'.
The other fear is of the ego alone... it sees a dire future, either close or far, but ever present in the ego as a potential. It tightens the body, increases the blood pressure, and causes the ego to warp into bad decisionmaking... Call that 'ego fear'.
The first, body fear, is as natural as breathing, and not to be ashamed of nor avoided. It is onto the moment, not a past or future thing, and is, like pain, a warning to be aware.
The second, ego fear, is a dis-ease, it runs through the mind in loops of hard agony, driving senarios and analysis of reactions that consumes the attention. It kills the body eventually, and drives away all others, who feel the tightness and perceive the ego-filter the fear produces.
Ego fear causes over-reaction to almost everything, because understanding never occures in the now, but instead the fear obscures the now. It also prevents responding to immediate danger with sense, for instead of responding, one tangled in such fear reacts, and does the wrong thing. The ego is stupid, and cannot know in advance what will work and what will make things worse.
The way one breaks from the ego fears is twofold, first is to not accept the ego running fear reaction loops through the consciousness. When you find yourself in such a loop, bring your attention back to the now, and ignore the ego's games.
Second, when something kicks in your body fear, especially in a situation that your ego has mulled over for years, face the situation cleanly. Ignore your ego, ignore the shaking of your body, ignore your mind and be totally aware.
It is said that things go from thoughts to words to actions, and this is OK... but we are not our thoughts, or our words... We are our attention... and our actions... more than thoughts and words. Attention is holy, and what we put it into IS the creative force of God. When we put it into thoughts, we empower those thoughts. The ego will put out a fountain of thoughts at all times, many of them totally bizarre, and which thoughts we put our attention into become empowered, they become the shape we create, to the extent they can.
If we put our attention into words, then those words are empowered, and they become the creative force to the extent they can.
If we put our attention directly into action, then they become the creative force and are magnified to the degree they can be...
When in a situation of any kind, especially when the body is shaking and stomach is tight, when in real danger, the best response is to be AWARE, just totally aware, paying attention not to thoughts or words, but just have our attention out there through our senses like a laser beam, and an amazing thing will happen... you will find responses you can make that your ego would never see or consider at all. Let the danger of the moment be sufficient onto itself. Fear no danger in the future, for it does not exist yet. Be AWARE at all times, and nothing can surprise you whatsoever.
And when you are faced with danger, and your God connection is beaming out through your senses, you will do exactly what is necessary to make the best of the situation. And you will be able to accept the results of that action also, without emotional scars. This is the best use of God's creative energy within you, that you use it without ego interfering. It's not the ego's job to handle such stuff, and if you accept it's continous assertion that it is you, then it will do a bad job continously. Your ego is not you. The ego is a mechinism which you can use, but it is not YOU. It has it's purposes, but it's natural purpose is to obey you, not consume you by sucking up your attention with future ego fear.
Peace,
Roan
